Dear ALP Parents and Students,
We hope your summer is going well! Before you know it, September will be here and our hallways at the ALP will be filled with the voices of excited students!
This summer, our students will have a summer reading requirement through Scholastic books called, “Scholastic Summer Challenge”.
They will need to read from books of their choice every day. They should then visit www.scholastic.com/summer and log in using the user name and password found below. They will need to record the number of minutes they read that day on the chart found on the website. The goal is to read every day for at least twenty minutes.
We have attached a letter from Scholastic as well as suggested reading lists. Students can read any books at their grade level or above; however, they cannot choose books they have already read.
If your child has no access to a computer this summer, we have attached a reading log where they can record the minutes they read. When the school year begins, your child can use the ALP computers to fill in the minutes recorded on their charts. If your child has used the Scholastic website to record their minutes, completing the attached log is not necessary.
We think you will enjoy visiting this website. It has so much to offer and it is really fun to explore.
Challenge your ALP teachers!!! Many of the ALP teachers are recording their minutes as well. If your child reads more than each participating teacher, homework passes or extra credit coupons will be awarded!!!
Please feel free to contact Cel Sweeney at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
The ALP Teachers
